A Surprise Proposal on the Mendocino Coast

Emily & Gabriel

Some proposals need a city skyline. This one needed wild ocean cliffs, giant cypress trees, and a photographer hiding in the fog.
Gabriel and I planned everything in advance — the exact spot at the Cypress Grove, the timing, the route they'd walk, and where I'd be tucked away, invisible, camera ready. The proposal itself happened framed between two enormous cypress trees on the headlands, and it was everything a surprise proposal should be: genuine shock, happy tears, and that first embrace as newly-engaged people that no amount of posing could ever recreate.
Then we walked to Point Kelli, where the Mendocino coastline shows off — sheer cliffs, churning ocean, and that day, a soft blanket of fog and cloud. And here's the thing about Mendocino fog: it's not a problem, it's a style. The muted light and drifting mist made every frame look like a still from a film. Cinematic is the only word for it.
Mendocino is a spectacular choice for a destination proposal — dramatic, romantic, and far from the crowds. If you're planning one, I'll handle the covert logistics: location scouting, timing, hiding spots, all of it. Your only job is the question.
