A Backyard Family Session in Pacifica — Three Generations & a Newborn
We never left the property for this session — and we never needed to.
The family was gathering before their baby's baptism ceremony, so the house was already full of the people who mattered: mom and dad with their three-month-old, her sister and brother-in-law (plus their puppy), and the grandparents. Rather than herding everyone to a park, we did the whole session right in their Pacifica backyard — and it turned out to be full of beautiful little corners I kept discovering as we went. Sunny coastal weather did the rest.
At-home sessions like this are quietly my favorite kind of family photography: everyone is relaxed because they're home, the baby naps and eats on schedule, grandparents aren't navigating trails, and the photos live where the memories do.
The portraits I loved most happened inside, next to the large window facing the backyard. That window turned into a natural studio — soft, wrapped light like a giant softbox, with the darker room falling away into a clean, moody backdrop behind them. Timeless newborn and family portraits, zero equipment, just good light and people in love with their new baby.
If you're in Pacifica or on the coastside and want family or newborn photos without leaving home — before a baptism, a birthday, or just because the baby is three months old exactly once — this is what it can look like.
